How can I apply for unemployment insurance?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not administer or oversee unemployment insurance (UI) programs. You should contact your State workforce agency for information, using the Department of Labor's Career Onestop Service Locator.

July jobless rates down in 11 states, up in 2; payroll jobs up in 6 states, down in 1

In July, unemployment rates were lower in 11 states, higher in 2, and stable in 37 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 6 states, decreased in 1, and was essentially unchanged in 43 states and the District.

July jobless rates down over the year in 323 of 388 metro areas; payroll jobs up in 59

Jobless rates were lower in July than a year earlier in 323 of the 388 metropolitan areas, higher in 41, and unchanged in 24. Nonfarm payroll employment was up in 59 metropolitan areas over the year and essentially unchanged in 329.

Annual average unemployment rates in 2017 decreased in 32 states and were little changed or unchanged in 18 states and the District of Columbia. Employment-population ratios increased in 12 states, decreased in 2 states, and were little changed or unchanged in 36 states and the District.
