For the year ended September 2021, compensation costs for private industry workers increased 4.1 percent, compared with an increase of 2.4 percent for the year ended September 2020. Compensation costs for workers in the leisure and hospitality industry increased 6.9 percent from September 2020 to September 2021, compared with an increase of 4.1 percent for the 12 months ended September 2020.

For major occupational groups, compensation cost increases for the 12-month period ending in September 2021 ranged from 3.2 percent for management, professional, and related occupations to 6.1 percent for service occupations.
The South was the only U.S. region with an increase in compensation costs above 4.0 percent for the year ended September 2021, at 4.5 percent.
