Introducing the new and improved BLS Commissioner’s Corner

Friday, May 2, 2014

I am delighted this week to introduce the new and improved Commissioner’s Corner. The Commissioner’s Corner has been a feature of the BLS website since 2009 to highlight the many interesting things happening at BLS, including outstanding new products, our testimony before Congressional committees, public speeches by BLS leadership, awards and recognitions, and more. Future postings of the Commissioner’s Corner also will include short pieces about issues affecting BLS and the broader statistical community. I also intend to use this blog as a platform for helping you understand how we do our work at BLS to bring you objective, relevant, high-quality statistics and analysis in a timely manner.

The Commissioner’s Corner now has a brand new look and several new features and capabilities. The most exciting of the new features is that you are now able to submit comments and questions about postings on the Commissioner’s Corner, and we are able to respond. Naturally I expect the comments and questions to remain civil and courteous, but it makes me happy to be able to carry on a discussion with BLS customers about the products and services we provide.

The new Commissioner’s Corner also makes it easier for readers to search for postings by date, topic, or keywords. In addition, you can sign up to receive email alerts about new postings of the Commissioner’s Corner, just as you can for BLS news releases and other publications. To sign up for these alerts, simply enter your email address in the box on the left side of the screen and click on the red button that says “GO.”

If you wish to share postings of the Commissioner’s Corner on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, the social media buttons on every posting make it easy.

BLS will tweet new postings of the Commissioner’s Corner on Twitter, just as we do for all of our other publications and important announcements. If you are not yet following us on Twitter, I urge you to do so @BLS_gov.

Finally this week, BLS released the April 2014 Employment Situation report this morning. Read my statement about the report.
