Footnotes:
(1) Estimate is suppressed because it does not meet American Time Use publication standards

In 2013, on an average day, persons aged 15 to 19 spent more time (10.5 hours) engaged in personal care activities (which include sleeping) than any other age group. Men and women in that age group spent about the same amount of time engaged in personal care activities.

On an average day in 2013, women aged 35 and over spent over 2 hours engaged in household activities. In contrast, with the exception of men aged 65 to 74 years (2 hours), men in all other age groups spent less than 2 hours engaged in household activities.  Men aged 15 to 24 years and women aged 15 to 19 spent less than 1 hour engaged in household activities.

Across all age groups, on an average day, men spent more time engaged in working and work-related activities than women in 2013. Women aged 25 to 44 spent over 1.4 hours per day engaged in caring for and helping household members. In contrast, men of all age groups spent less than 1 hour per day engaged in caring for and helping household members.

These data are from the American Time Use Survey. For more information, see "American Time Use Survey — 2013 Results" (HTML) (PDF), news release USDL‑14‑1137. Estimates on time engaged in educational activities for men aged 25 to 34 and 75 and over were suppressed because they did not meet the American Time Use Survey publication standards.
