Consumer Price Index, April 2013

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased 0.4 percent in April on a seasonally adjusted basis. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 1.1 percent before seasonal adjustment.

From April 2012 to April 2013, the index for medical care has risen 2.7 percent. The index for housing has risen 1.9 percent and the index for food and beverages has gone up 1.6 percent.
Over the past 12 months, the index for transportation has fallen 2.0 percent. The index for gasoline has declined 8.3 percent and the fuel oil index has fallen 5.6 percent. In contrast to these declines, the index for natural gas has risen 7.6 percent and the electricity index has increased 1.1 percent.
