Producer Price Indexes

PPI Implements NAICS 2012

With the release of data for January 2012 on February 16, 2012, the Producer Price Index (PPI) program will implement the 2012 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) structure for publication of industry-based PPI indexes. While a majority of industries under the 2012 structure directly compare with those published under the previous structure, a number of industries under this previous structure were combined to form the 2012 NAICS industries. Industry concordance information is available in the 2012 to 2007 NAICS Concordance file from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In accordance with usual practice in the PPI, structural changes to the NAICS are implemented in conjunction with weight updates and semi-annual industry sample changes. As such, all structure updates resulting from these processes will appear in tables 16 through 21 of the January 2012 PPI Detailed Report.

Further information is available from the PPI Section of Index Analysis and Public Information, at ppi-info@bls.gov or (202) 691-7705.
