Labor productivity up 0.7 percent from first quarter 2019 to first quarter 2020

Private nonfarm business sector labor productivity rose 0.7 percent from the first quarter of 2019 to the first quarter of 2020. Output was unchanged while unit labor costs rose 1.9 percent.

Labor productivity, or output per hour, is calculated by dividing an index of real output by an index of hours worked by all persons, including employees, proprietors, and unpaid family workers. The revised measures were based on more recent source data than were available for the preliminary report.
