Employment in 2019 up 5.8 percent in Cleveland County, Oklahoma

Cleveland County, Oklahoma (part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area), had the largest over-the-year increase in employment with a gain of 5.8 percent from December 2018 to December 2019. The largest employment increase in Cleveland County occurred in trade, transportation, and utilities.

In Adams County, Colorado (in the Denver metro area) employment increased 5.1 percent. In South Carolina, both Lexington County (part of the Columbia area) and York County (in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area) had 4.1-percent increases in employment. Employment in St. Charles County, Missouri (St. Louis area) increased 4.0 percent during the year ended December 2019.

Ector County, Texas (Odessa metro area), experienced the largest over-the-year percentage decrease in employment, with a loss of 4.2 percent. Within Ector, natural resources and mining had the largest employment decrease.

Over-the-year employment decreases of at least 2.4 percent also occurred in Peoria County, Illinois (part of the Peoria metro area); Calcasieu County, Louisiana (Lake Charles area); and Elkhart County, Indiana (Elkhart-Goshen area).

All of the 10 largest counties had over-the-year percentage increases in employment. In December 2019, Maricopa County, Arizona (Phoenix area), had the largest over-the-year employment percentage gain among the 10 largest counties, 3.5 percent. Within Maricopa, education and health services had the largest employment increase.
