Despite the decline in total recordable cases in 2017, the incidence rate of 0.1 days-away-from-work cases per 100 full-time equivalent workers was the same rate reported in 2016.

Workers in finance and insurance incurred a total of 8,090 days-away-from-work cases in 2017, of which 4,180 resulted from falls, slips, or trips. Falls, slips, or trips in this industry occurred to women disproportionately, with 3,760 cases among women compared with 410 cases among men in 2017. The number of falls, slips, or trips cases among women increased by 1,250 in 2017, offsetting the decreases observed in two other event or exposure categories (contact with objects and equipment and overexertion and bodily reaction). The total number of days-away-from-work cases that occurred to men decreased in 2017 compared with 2016 as a result of declines in transportation incidents; falls, slips, and trips; and overexertion and bodily reaction.
