Lettuce prices up 15 percent, TV prices down 17 percent over the year ending February 2019

Prices for food, drinks, clothing, services, gasoline, and televisions and other household items are always changing, some more than others. From February 2018 to February 2019, the price of lettuce increased 14.5 percent while television prices decreased 16.8 percent. This compared to an increase of 1.5 percent for all consumer items over that period.

Within apparel, prices for boys' apparel increased 10.5 percent, boys' and girls' footwear increased 7.8 percent, and women's outerwear increased 6.7 percent from February 2018 to February 2019. Prices for women's underwear, nightwear, swimwear, and accessories decreased 5.9 percent, while prices for women's suits and separates decreased 5.1 percent.

Among food items, prices for shelf stable fish and seafood increased 9.1 percent, fresh vegetables increased 5.8 percent, and baby food increased 5.6 percent for the year ending February 2019. Prices for dried beans, peas and lentils decreased 7.4 percent while prices for eggs decreased 5.9 percent.

From February 2018 to February 2019, prices for telephone hardware, calculators, and other consumer information items decreased 15.1 percent, video and audio products decreased 8.9 percent, and toys decreased 8.8 percent.
