From May 2017 to May 2018, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 332 metropolitan areas, decreased in 52 areas, and was unchanged in 4 areas.

The largest over-the-year percentage gains in employment occurred in Midland, Texas (+11.3 percent), Ocean City, New Jersey (+7.4 percent), and Lafayette-West Lafayette, Indiana (+7.0 percent).

The largest over-the-year percentage decrease in employment occurred in Victoria, Texas (−2.4 percent), followed by Enid, Oklahoma, and Sebring, Florida (−2.3 percent each). The largest over-the-year decrease in employment occurred in Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio- Pennsylvania (−2,500), followed by Naples-Immokalee-Marco Island, Florida (−2,400), and Corpus Christi, Texas (−1,800).
