Video and audio product prices fall 6.8 percent over year and audio services up 5.4 percent

From August 2016 to August 2017, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) rose 1.9 percent. Consumer prices for recreation commodities fell 3.4 percent, while prices for recreation services increased 3.8 percent. Recreation commodities represent about 1.7 percent of the total CPI-U market basket, compared with 4.0 percent for recreation services.

Among recreation commodities, prices for video and audio products fell 6.8 percent over the year ending August 2017, and prices for sporting goods decreased 2.4 percent. Prices for photographic equipment and supplies increased 1.5 percent over the same period.

Among recreation services, prices for video and audio services increased 5.4 percent from August 2016 to August 2017. Prices for photographers and film processing decreased 1.4 percent.
