Producer Price Index for final demand increased 2.2 percent for the year ended February 2017

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 2.2 percent from February 2016 to February 2017, the largest advance since a 2.4-percent increase for the year ended March 2012. The index for final demand goods increased 3.9 percent, led by a 19.2-percent increase in prices for final demand energy.

Within final demand energy, the producer price indexes for finished consumer energy goods (17.7 percent), government purchased energy (22.3 percent), and energy for export (41.3 percent) all increased from February 2016 to February 2017.

For the year ended February 2017, the index for final demand services increased 1.4 percent. The index for trade services, which measures changes in the margins wholesalers and retailers receive, increased 0.9 percent. Prices for transportation and warehousing services increased 1.6 percent.
