Producer Price Index for final demand goods increased 4.0 percent over the year ending March 2017

The Producer Price Index for final demand goods increased 4.0 percent over the year ending March 2017, outpacing the Producer Price Index for final demand, which increased 2.3 percent over this period. This increase in the final demand goods index was largely driven by an increase in the final demand energy index, which increased 15.2 percent from March 2016 to March 2017.

Over the year ending March 2017, prices for final demand services increased 1.5 percent. The index for trade services, which measures changes in the margins wholesalers and retailers receive, increased 1.5 percent as well. Prices for transportation and warehousing services increased 1.3 percent.
