West Virginia only state to lose employment from May 2014 to May 2015

From May 2014 to May 2015, 32 states and the District of Columbia had statistically significant increases in employment and West Virginia had a significant decrease (−16,600). The largest significant over-the-year job increase occurred in California (+465,700), followed by Texas (+286,400) and Florida (+268,500).

Employment in West Virginia went from 774,200 in May 2014 to 757,600 in May 2015, a 2.1-percent decrease. Much of the decline was due to losses in government employment (10,900), construction (4,200), and the leisure and hospitality sector (2,200).

Employment in California went from 15,588,400 in May 2014 to 16,054,100 in May 2015. The largest over-the-year percentage increases occurred in Utah (+3.9 percent) and Washington (+3.6 percent).
