Eleven of the most populated U.S. metropolitan areas are made up of 38 metropolitan divisions. In April 2015, Framingham, Massachusetts; San Francisco-Redwood City-South San Francisco, California; and San Rafael, California, had the lowest unemployment rates among metropolitan divisions, 3.3 percent each. Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale, California, had the highest, 7.1 percent.

All 38 metropolitan divisions had over-the-year unemployment rate decreases in April. The largest of the declines occurred in Detroit-Dearborn-Livonia, Michigan (-3.3 percentage points), and Warren-Troy-Farmington Hills, Michigan (-2.4 points).
