Multifactor productivity in manufacturing down 2.8% in 2015, largest decline since 2012

In 2015 multifactor productivity in manufacturing decreased 2.8 percent, durable manufacturing decreased 2.4 percent, and nondurable manufacturing decreased 2.7 percent. The multifactor productivity decline in manufacturing was the largest since 2012.

Multifactor productivity decreases 0.2% in 2016, first decline since 2009

In 2016 multifactor productivity decreased at a 0.2 percent annual rate in the private nonfarm business sector and 0.1 percent in the private business sector. In both sectors, multifactor productivity declined for the first time since 2009.

Multifactor productivity rose in 21 of 86 4-digit NAICS manufacturing industries in 2015

Multifactor productivity rose in 21 of the 86 4-digit NAICS manufacturing industries in 2015, down from 42 of the industries in 2014. Among transportation industries, multifactor productivity increased in air transportation and decreased in line-haul railroads.
