Discontinuation of the Commissioner’s Statement (CPS)

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is discontinuing the monthly Commissioner’s Statement on the Employment Situation. The final Commissioner’s Statement will be issued on January 6, 2023, with the release of employment and unemployment statistics for December 2022.

BLS will continue to publish The Employment Situation news release. The content of the Commissioner’s Statement largely repeats the analysis presented in The Employment Situation news release. In addition, BLS website traffic data indicate that few people view the Commissioner’s Statement in any given month.

See the BLS archive of the Commissioner’s Statement on the Employment Situation for statements published during the 1994–2022 period. (Please note that the archived statements contain data as originally published. Data in archived statements may have been revised in subsequent publications.)
