Chained CPI-U index for new vehicles began publication on October 11, 2018

The Chained CPI-U (C-CPI-U) index for new vehicles was added to our current C-CPI-U table (1C) starting with September 2018 data released on October 11, 2018 under the private transportation index and will be loaded into the Chained CPI database back to December 1999. The C-CPI-U index for new vehicles includes new car, truck, and motorcycle purchases. An example of the revised table is available.
