PUMD ERRATA – CSXQYEAR 2010

ERRATA – Consumer Expenditure Public-Use Microdata
June 15, 2012

To users of the 2010 Consumer Expenditure Public Use Microdata v2 Interview files released on November 29, 2011:

There has been a miscoded value for one of the variables in the 2010 Interview data files.  The error affects the QYEAR variable.  Please note:  this error does not affect the expenditure or income estimates.

1. Error in EXPN Files

The value for QYEAR in each of the EXPN files identifies the year and quarter that the Interview took place (collection quarter).  See page 10 of the 2010 Interview User’s Documentation for a list of the EXPN files. The codes and descriptions should be as follows:

Year and Quarter of the interview, for use in matching to the other files
CODED

20101

2010, 1st quarter

20102

2010, 2nd quarter

20103

2010, 3rd quarter

20104

2010, 4th quarter

20111

2011, 1st quarter

However, on the release of the CD, the code for 2011, 1st quarter is 20115 instead of 20111.  Please make note of this when using the QYEAR variable.

For 2010 the values for QYEAR are:

Year and Quarter of the interview, for use in matching to the other files
CODED

20101

2010, 1st quarter

20102

2010, 2nd quarter

20103

2010, 3rd quarter

20104

2010, 4th quarter

20115

2011, 1st quarter

The current version of the CD will keep a notice of this erratum, but no values will be changed.
