Bureau of Labor Statistics Security Statement

In December 2020, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) confirmed a security breach through the vulnerable SolarWinds Orion software that has impacted many of the users of the product. BLS worked closely with Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) regarding this event and followed their guidance. Out of an abundance of caution and following best practices, BLS implemented heightened security reviews and monitoring on all of its systems and networks once the breach was discovered.

After a thorough review that was verified through a third-party professional security service, BLS can confirm that no BLS data, respondent information, or employee information was compromised.

BLS will continue to monitor and implement further security measures to ensure the safety of its network and the data and information contained therein.
