Sleep


Findings from the 2006 survey:

Average sleep times per day, by age and sex

  • Individuals ages 15 to 19 slept more hours per day than individuals in older age groups. Sleep times tended to decrease with age, but increased again for those age 65 and over.
  • On average, Americans age 15 and over slept 8.6 hours per day. However, individuals slept an hour more on weekend days (9.3 hours) than on weekdays (8.3 hours).
