Metropolitan areas that are home to state capitals and public universities are likely to have a high percentage of nonfarm employment in government. Ames, Iowa, home to Iowa State University, had the highest share of nonfarm employment (41.6 percent) among metropolitan areas in October 2015. Elkhart-Goshen, Indiana, had the lowest with 7.0 percent.
