Productivity increased 9.5 percent in the nonfarm business sector during the third quarter of 2009 as unit labor costs fell 5.2 percent (seasonally adjusted annual rates). In manufacturing, productivity increased 13.6 percent while unit labor costs fell 7.1 percent. More...

Productivity and Costs by Industry: Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade, and Food Services and Drinking Places Industries, 2008

Labor productivity (output per hour) declined in wholesale trade, retail trade, and food services and drinking places in 2008. Productivity fell in 26 of the 50 detailed industries studied. Unit labor costs rose in 29 detailed industries, and increased in all three sectors in 2008. Full Text »

Productivity and Costs by Industry: Selected Service-Providing and Mining Industries, 2007

Labor productivity (output per hour) rose in 66 percent of the detailed service-providing and mining industries studied in 2007, about the same proportion as in 2006. Unit labor costs increased in 70 percent of the industries, compared to 76 percent in 2006. Full Text »

Productivity and Costs by Industry: Manufacturing Industries 2006

Labor productivity (output per hour) rose in 52 percent of the manufacturing industries studied in 2006, a much smaller proportion than the 88 percent of industries that recorded productivity increases in the previous year. Unit labor costs declined in 33 percent of the industries. Full Text »
