Careers at BLS

Amanda Rooney

Amanda Rooney, Economist, Washington, DC

Amanda Rooney "I started with BLS as an economist intern in the Student Career Experience Program. I found out about the program through an on-campus recruiting event. I was driven to apply when I learned that in this internship, I would be doing real work.

Additionally, students who complete the program are eligible for direct hire after graduation if they meet the program requirements. This was a great way to get a Federal job right away without having to go through the typical application process.

I have been able to learn many new technical skills, as I use several different computer programs to complete my tasks. I have also developed my public speaking skills, through presentations at meetings. The most satisfying part of the job is seeing the indexes get published, and knowing that I, a recent college graduate, am a part of making it happen."
