ReportsThe Consumer Expenditure Survey data are available in three different reports -- an annual report, a two-year report, and a biennial anthology. Quarterly reports were published in the past but were discontinued with the fourth quarter 1998. The reports are described below. Any of the reports may be obtained free of charge by contacting the CE National Office. ANNUAL REPORT. An annual report is published yearly and contains tables of annual data integrated from the Diary and Interview surveys. Included are 13 tables that show expenditures and income grouped by 13 standard characteristics: Income quintile, income class, age, size, composition, number of earners, housing tenure, type of area, race, Hispanic or Latino origin, region, occupation, and education. The annual report Consumer Expenditures in 2005 (PDF) is now available. TWO-YEAR REPORT. A two-year report is published biennially and includes tables of integrated Diary and Interview survey data, a glossary, a description of survey methods, and a survey source of data for the integrated tables. The tables include expenditure and income data classified by the 13 standard characteristics (as listed above); by selected metropolitan statistical areas; cross-tabulated by income and age, region of residence, and size of consumer unit; cross-tabulated by sex and age and by sex and income; and relative expenditure shares and aggregate expenditure shares for the 13 standard characteristics. The analytical articles, which were once included in the two-year report, are now published separately in the anthology (see below). The Consumer Expenditure Survey, 2002-2003, is now available. ANTHOLOGY. In 2003 the Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) began publishing an anthology. This report includes both methodological and analytical articles. The methodological articles are intended to provide data users with greater insight into ongoing improvements in the survey as well as issues that are faced in collecting, processing, and publishing information from such a complex survey. The analytical articles provide information on topics of interest using Consumer Expenditure Survey data. The Consumer Expenditure Survey Anthology, 2005 is now available. QUARTERLY REPORT. Quarterly reports, which were published four times a year, included Interview survey data classified by three standard characteristics: Quintiles of income, age, and region. They also included a table that compared the data to corresponding quarters in prior years. The quarterly report was discontinued with the fourth quarter 1998.
