ERRATA – Consumer Expenditure Public-Use Microdata
January 28, 2010

To users of the 2004 Consumer Expenditure Public Use Microdata Files:

An error was found in the release of the public-use Interview Expenditure (EXPN) files – OVB (Owned Vehicles – Detailed Questions).  Addendum files will be sent upon request to all users who have received the original release of the 2004 data.  Note that no expenditure amounts were affected by this error. 

To request the “OVB - VEHICYR” addendum files in SAS, STATA, SPSS, ASCII – comma delimited, or ASCII – column parametered, please contact the Consumer Expenditure Survey and be sure to specify which file type is needed:

All orders placed after January 28, 2010 will receive the data CD with addendum files contained within.  The corrected CD-ROMs will have a label indicating the most recent version number (version 4) for the CD to distinguish them from previously released CDs.
  

Description of the error

There were 271 records in the OVB file that had an incorrect value for VEHICYR. These observations all had a value of “20”, but should have had a value of “25”. 

Addendum files have been created with the correct values for VEHICYR for the affected observations.
